Lighting the Way: Creating shared spaces for Interfaith Understanding in Schools

How can schools create spaces where pupils from different faiths and beliefs feel understood, respected and able to learn from one another?
This training explores how schools can develop meaningful interfaith work as part of everyday school life. Participants will explore what effective interfaith engagement looks like in a school context, how to create opportunities for pupils to encounter and learn about different faiths and beliefs, and how to approach conversations about religion and belief with confidence, curiosity and sensitivity.
Light and time: Teacher CPD for Inter Faith Week 2026

Cathy Haynes is the author of The Fullness of Time: Marking the Day by Birdsong, Blooms, Shadows and Stars. The book weaves together learning from interviews and wider research, to explore human experience of time in relation to light and dark.
The book includes an interview with University of Cambridge research Imad Ahmed, whose research and activism helped manifest the Moonsighters Academy. Inter Faith Week 2026 includes the beginning of a new lunar month and the opportunity to spot a new crescent moon (after sunset on Tuesday 10 November).
This CPD session introduces elements of Cathy and Imad’s work, with the support of the New Crescent Society and hosted by the Cambridge Interfaith Programme. Watch to expand your knowledge and make connections between religious (and non-religious) lives and disciplines such as astronomy, botany, and agriculture.
The session will be of interest to specialist and non-specialist teachers of religious education whether you work in a primary or secondary setting.
